ABS, DSC, brake warning light

Postby cheungdhkg » Tue Oct 12, 2010 7:05 pm

Hi - I've got an 07/08 M5 and the warning lights for ABS, DSC and brake sometimes come up while driving, giving you a warning message :Drive carefully - drive stability problem " on the idrive and on some other day, it uatomatically turnitself off (again, while driving). Heard diiferent versions from different mechanics - maybe ABS sensor, maybe DSC hydraulic unit, maybe steering angle sensor. Don't know who to trust. Has anybody experience that ? can someone suggest a reliable BMW mechanic on HK side who has the "big unit" computer and can resolve this ? :?

Thanks for the tip, Bigbird. I read on M5board and it appears quite common on E60s.
Any recommendations for BMW garage (apart from dealer itself) ?

Mine had similar problem and the diagnosis was a faulty alternator supplying uneven charges to the battery triggering various devices to shut down due to circuit protection. Took it back to BMW and replaced new alternator free of charge on goodwill claim even when my car was out of warranty for 6 months.

could be just the battery, if its the alternator like mine, the problem is quite severe and those warning lights will lit up like Christmas tree

Looks like some of us got the same problem but from
different causes.
I'll get a new battery in a couple of weeks and see if the problem goes away.
Keep you posted
